Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Do I need a website to use BatchDrop?

No. Every plan includes a public storefront, so you run everything from the dashboard and reach customers by text. A custom, chosen URL for that storefront is a Pro and Business feature; Basic gets a BatchDrop-assigned address.

Can I bring the customer list I already have?

Yes. Paste rows straight out of Google Sheets or upload a CSV of up to 500 rows. BatchDrop guesses which column is the phone number and which is the name, and shows you what it found before anything is imported.

How long does setup take?

It depends on how many products you have and how long your list is. A product and a drop are one short form each, and your list goes in by pasting rows or uploading a CSV.

Drops and orders

Can a drop take more orders than I set?

It can. An item is counted as sold when you mark the order paid, so unpaid orders do not hold one yet. Every order shows up in your dashboard as soon as it is placed, so check the unpaid ones before you mark the last few paid.

What happens if I cancel a drop?

The drop stops taking orders, and every order on it stays in your dashboard. Customers paid you directly, so you pay back anyone who already paid the same way they paid you.

Do drops open and close on their own?

They close on their own. You set when a drop opens and closes. When you’re ready, open it and send the announcement with one tap. A background job checks every minute and closes it at the closing time.

SMS and consent

What happens when someone texts STOP?

They stop receiving broadcasts immediately, both from your store and at the level of their phone number. They stay on your customer list so their order history is intact.

Can I text customers I imported?

Imported customers start as pending, which means no broadcasts. You can send them a one-tap opt-in request, and a YES reply moves them to opted in.

Can I reply to someone who has not opted in?

Yes. One-to-one replies in the inbox are conversations they started, so they are not gated on broadcast consent.

Orders, receipts & invoices

Can I take an order that is not part of a drop?

Yes, on every plan. Create it from the Orders page in your dashboard or from a customer’s page, for someone already on your list or someone new. Lines can come from your products or be typed in, and a typed line can be saved to your products for next time. A customer you add this way is not opted in to texts.

When does my customer get a receipt?

As soon as you mark the order paid, on every plan. Receipts are numbered per store (RCP-0001, RCP-0002, and so on) and go by email if you have the customer’s address, otherwise by text. Each one is a link they can open without signing in, and you can resend it from your dashboard.

Can I send an invoice?

On Pro and Business. You issue an invoice from an unpaid order, with an optional due date that also adds a follow-up for that day. Customers cannot pay an invoice online yet — it shows as awaiting payment, and when you mark it paid the order is settled and a receipt goes out.

Can I fix a mistake on a receipt or invoice?

Not once it is issued. Void it and issue a new one. Invoice lines can be edited right up until you issue it. Receipts and invoices are web pages and emails, not PDFs.

Offers & message limits

What is an offer?

A one-off text of up to 300 characters to everyone on your list who has opted in, on every plan. It goes out with your store name in front and "Reply STOP to opt out." at the end, and that line is never cut off. There is no targeting: an offer goes to everyone who is opted in.

What counts toward my monthly message allowance?

Basic includes 300 messages a month, Pro 1,000, and Business 3,000. Broadcasts, offers, order texts, receipts, fulfilment texts, and inbox replies all count, and a long text can count as more than one. Sign-in codes do not count. The allowance resets each billing period.

What happens when I reach the limit?

Only broadcasts and offers stop. Before one starts, BatchDrop checks it fits in what you have left, and refuses it if it does not, so it never goes out to half your list. Order texts, receipts, fulfilment texts, and inbox replies keep going. There are no overage charges or top-ups; upgrade if you need more room.

Money

Does BatchDrop take a percentage of my sales?

Not on payments you collect yourself. You pay a flat monthly subscription, and money your customers send you by Venmo, Zelle, or cash is yours in full. Online card payments, when they launch, will carry a small per-transaction fee that we will publish before you can switch them on.

What happens when my 14-day trial ends?

A card is required to start the trial. When it ends, that card is billed automatically for the plan you selected — monthly, through Stripe, in USD — unless you cancel first.

How do my customers pay?

Directly to you, the way they already do — Venmo, Zelle, cash, or whatever you arrange. Mark an order paid in your dashboard and the customer gets a receipt automatically. Online card payments through Stripe are in development.

Your account

What happens if my card payment fails?

Your account goes past due and everything keeps working while you update your card.

What happens if my subscription ends?

Your data is kept. Your public page goes offline, unless a drop is still open, in which case that drop runs to its close. Broadcasts, offers, and inbox sends stop, and you cannot create or edit drops or products until you resubscribe.

I run a service business, not drops. Does BatchDrop still fit?

Set "What do you do?" in your store settings to service, or both. Service stores open on a Today screen with customers, follow-ups due, and unread texts, and the public page becomes a simple site with a "Request a quote or visit" form. The setting only changes defaults — every feature on your plan stays available.
